Sections of timber bamboo are placed over the foil to further protect living areas near the jin. | ||

More layers of aluminum foil are added. The foil acts as an insulation with air spaces betweenthe layers.

Heat is applied with a torch, either propane or butane. The torch is kept moving to heat the jin evenly. When the area becomes "steamed" (well heated), the jin is ready to be bent. Great care must be taken to protect living areas of the tree. If properly done, the jin will remain where it is placed permanently, if improperly done, the jin may bend, only to return to its original position when exposed to dampness. | |||||
